Academic Success Center

The campus Academic Success Center (ASC) at UW-Platteville Baraboo Sauk County is designed to support you as reach your academic goals. Both professional and peer tutors can help you understand basic course concepts, proven study methods, and develop skills to succeed in their classes.

The ASC is located in the Umhoefer Building, Room A151, on the lower level and open 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Quiet study spaces open during regular campus hours and tutoring is available on a walk-in or appointment basis. See tutor schedules posted throughout campus.  For more information, Gabe Riviere at 608.355.5273 or riviereg@uwplatt.edu.

Tutoring and Support

  • Access individual and small group tutoring in a variety of disciplines: Math, writing, philosophy, psychology, and sociology. Other discipline-specific tutors may be available upon request.
  • Find one-on-one or small group support in study skills, effective note taking, reading strategies for academic texts, and reducing test taking anxiety.
  • Individual and small group study rooms, campus computers and printers, and skill clinics on a variety of academic success topics are also available.

Academic Support Programs offers a comprehensive range of services for UW-Platteville students. We provide tutoring, writing assistance, academic coaching, academic advising, peer workshop instruction, and connections to a variety of resources that support learning. Additionally, many students can take advantage of collaborative learning through their First Year Experience course, resources for transfer students, and the testing center.

Our staff is dedicated to helping students refine and strengthen the academic skills necessary for success in college. We encourage students to take ownership of their college experience and ask for help when they need it!

Some Helpful Tips

Here are some tips to help you succeed in College

  • Use the Syllabus: this is your roadmap for each class, be sure to note Due Dates
  • Use a Planner: you need to know when you are going to DO what is DUE
  • Use your Downtime: even looking at your notes for 10 minutes will help you retain information
  • Use your Dorm Room as your relaxation space, it will be to distracting to study
  • Use on campus Study Rooms: the Library has Group and Individual study spaces available
  • Utilize your Classmates and Professors-ask for help
  • Utilize the Tutoring Center and Writing Lab
  • Set Priorities, Goals, and Deadlines-you can get ahead even
  • Do NOT Procrastinate!

Search Reminder

Remember if your campus's library is not listed as having a specific resource search the stacks in the area of the call number from the other library, chances are you will find a title pertaining to the same or similar topic(s).  You can always ask a librarian or library staff for assistance as well.
