Isolated but NOT Alone: Home

During this uncertain time of "Safer at Home" this guide will help you explore outside while still Social Distancing.
THIS GUIDE IS NO LONGER BEING UPDATED 2/15/2024 PLEASE CONTINUE TO ENJOY THE RESOURCES LISTED

Social Distance do not Social Isolate

Social distancing, isolation, new normal are all new terms we are learning and living with.

Just remember social distancing and being in isolation does not mean you have to be socially and mentally isolated.

Hopefully some of these ideas and websites will help you cope a little better, smile a little more, and remember we are all in this together.

Social Media

Facebook, Google, Skype, Face Time, Zoom, and Microsoft Teams can all be used to have video calls with friends and family.  The best thing about some of these services, other then the fact that they are free, is you can talk with multiple people at a time.  Whoa!! I know, so when you get a group of friends together on Zoom or Skype have some fun:

  • Watch a favorite TV show or Movie together and discuss it like you would if you were together
  • Create a book club and chat about the book
  • Have a happy hour, where you can just get together and see each other and chat
  • Play a game, things like JackBoxTv (not a free service) have games you can play in groups

Try to keep some sort of normal, if you get together with the girls on Wednesdays do it on Skype.  If you and the boys usually get together on Friday to play games do it on JackBoxTv and YouTube.

Remember we are all in this together and together we can get through this.

Do a quick Google Search to find some fun ways to not be Socially Isolated.

In Person Six Feet Apart

I get it, you cannot stay in the house forever, you need food and maybe toilet paper, and you can go to the store to get supplies.  Get out of the house, but still remember to practice social distancing, here are some ideas:

  • Go for a walk and a Bear Hunt, several communities are putting teddy bears out and about so you can look for them while out walking
  • Go for a scavenger hunt, look for natural items that say "Spring is Here"
  • Have a parade, drive around your neighborhood waving and spreading good cheer, your neighbors already think you are a little crazy

Remember to get out and about from time to time, be safe when you do, but get some fresh air and some sun shine they are both good for you.

Note

This is not an exhaustive list by any means, my hope is it will give some ideas to keep you entertained, learning, and above all healthy and safe.

Be Kind and Inspire Kindness

Many people want to know what they can do to help, first stay home.  I saw some nurses with a sign that said "We stay here for you, please stay home for us."  Like me you want to help, in some way without causing any more issues.  Here are some things you can do to help:

  • If you are getting groceries see if your elderly neighbors could use anything from the store
  • Drop off food at a Fire Department or Police Station or Hospital
  • Send a card of thank you to medical facilities, pharmacies, grocery stores, restaurants, and delivery services because they are working to keep us safe and feed
  • If you can sew and your local medical facilities are taking homemade masks make some and drop them off
  • Order food from restaurants that are open and tip well, their livelihoods have been impacted severely
  • Check in on your friends and family, send a text, call them, let them know you care
  • Above all else be kind and inspire kindness
